Brief Encounters — hero

Brief

Brief Encounters is a counter to London’s commercial music and nightlife, built around left-field music, spoken word and visual art.

The brief was an identity system and website that explored the edges of nightlife, sound and subculture rather than the polished mainstream version of it.

The events themselves are raw, lo-fi and fast-moving, and the brand had to carry that energy but the website still needed to be quick and functional for people trying to find a night out. It had to feel expressive without getting in its own way.

Outcome

The visual language is analog and lo-fi, pulling from VHS textures, film photography and ambient motion to match the rawness of the events.

The homepage leads on minimal type and layered media, a central phrase setting the tone while the rest of the interface stays quiet.

The identity also has physical elements like engraved tags, USBs and printed pieces that pull the brand off-screen and give it a tactile feel.
